Chuck Davis is a legend in contemporary dance, and tonight, he and the African-American Dance Ensemble will appear for the fourteenth time at the American Dance Festival in Durham, North Carolina. The annual ADF, which always features the best in modern dance from around the globe alongside a strong educational program, kicks off with this event.
Under the leadership of Chuck Davis, the ensemble’s mission is to preserve and share the finest traditions of African and African American dance and music through research, education and entertainment. It continues to “celebrate traditional African culture, aesthetics and values as resources to encourage interracial cooperation, cross-cultural understanding and societal analysis.”
There will be 8pm shows starting tonight, June 10 through Saturday, June 12, at Reynolds Industries Theater on Duke University’s main campus. For more on ticket info, see their site here. Check out some wonderful footage of the ensemble in action.
